Spanish Unity in the end came through diplomatic marriages and by the sword raised against other Spanish states that refused to join in by peacefull means. If there was even a notion of uniting the Iberian peninsular under one single monarch into one single kingdom most of the Kings and nobles who controled the various states would have fought bitterly over who would be the king of that state.
